Systems Developer (IS DEV)Apply for this jobLocation: 1 George Street, Edin, Scotland Salary: c.£32,000 Closing Date: 18-Feb-2010 Introduction and Background An opportunity for a Systems Developer has arisen to join the IS Investments Production Support Team. The successful candidate will be part of a team of 14+ who help maintain and support business applications to keep Standard Life Investments'' business functions operational. Key Outputs • Moderately complex software created, amended, and implemented in accordance with requirements, design and implementation instructions to ensure that the software meets the agreed standards (e.g. ISPA) and within agreed timescales. • Plans, designs and conducts tests of software; reviews results and takes remedial action as necessary, to ensure that the software meets the business needs. • All work documented in accordance with agreed standards (e.g. ISPA) to ensure consistency of approach and to comply with audit requirements. • Reviews undertaken of specific pieces of work with colleagues as required, to ensure that the system design and documentation follows best practice (i.e. ISPA). • System problems and requests for support across a small range of systems investigated, appropriate actions taken and documented to ensure that the required standards, methods and procedures are applied, that delays are avoided or minimised and that Standard Life has maximum system availability. • Progress updates provided to IS technical areas and business areas to ensure that all relevant information is taken into account Job Challenges and Problem Solving • Undertaking a broad range of work, in variety of environments when this can sometimes be complex and non routine. • Managing pieces of work through to completion when deadlines are constantly changing. • Having an up to date appreciation of the wider field of information systems, how own role relates to other roles and to the business areas they work with when this is constantly changing. Skills and Experience Required Essential • University degree or equivalent or previous Developer experience • Is able to work to required standards and to understand and use the appropriate methods, tools (e.g. Java, Cobol) and applications • Demonstrates analytical and systematic approach to problem solving • Demonstrates effective communication skills • Proven ability to absorb and apply new technical information • Ability to plan, schedule and monitor own work competently within limited time horizons. Desirable • Basic experience of one or more of the following, COBOL, Ab Initio, Java, Oracle, DB2, SQL • Experience within a support environment or support of a large development within the production environment • Experience working in as asset management company |
