Introduction and Background

IS Application Management has expanded its portfolio over the last couple of years, to include many more systems. To meet the increased demand and we are now seeking experienced developers with proven technical ability in Standard Life Midrange systems, we also support PC and Web based systems. A Broad knowledge of applications used by UKFS is also essential.

The PC/Midrange team currently support some 140+ applications across all Business Units on various platforms and versions. This includes SellT, Sales MI/Callidus, Slex MI, Marketing Customer View, Peoplsoft and FTP

We provide many services including root cause elimination, Problem resolution, Requested work, and provision of consultancy to both Dev Solutions and Business Units and on occasion some project development work. We have strong links with Service Management and ISOS dealing with Service Stability and improvement initiatives. Over the coming year there are significant challenges ahead with new systems being handed over, risk containment, stability work and new projects (such as Peoplesoft, FTP (using Ab Initio), Heal MI).

To be successful in the post you must have strong technical skills in Oracle, PL SQL, UNIX, or VB, C#, .net. Strong planning and organising skills together with excellent communication skills are necessary. The work is extremely varied and requires team working but also you should be able to work independently. You should be keen to improve existing processes and service.


Key Responsibilities

In this role you will:

• Work on prioritised problems and service requests covering all Business Units – we currently support over 140 applications
• Partake in the reactive service rota which enables small urgent items to be completed quickly
• Investigate, and fix, persistent production problems to avoid recurrence and to anticipate future problems
• Identify and provide solutions for items of work which would form part of our Self Initiated Projects role
• Assist in enforcement of security standards for applications
• Provide consultancy to development projects where specialist knowledge may be required
• Perform project development work as required
• Coach/mentor existing members of staff to extend business/technical knowledge
• Provide technical application expertise to business and other areas of IS to assist their business operations
• Partake in peer-checking of code changes and development of standards to ensure quality of solutions and future sup-portability
• Ensure documentation is kept up-to-date to facilitate future understanding, support and developments
• Assistance to ISOS for system software installations, upgrades and Disaster Recover Simulations

Technical Criteria Required

Essential

• A proven track record of developing systems
• Evidence of projects delivered successfully
• Excellent Midrange experience including Oracle, PL/SQL, Unix,
• Awareness of testing principles, methods and tools
• Strong problem solving and analysis skills
• Awareness of release principles and implementation methods

• OWB
• APEX
• Ab Initio
• Mainframe skills/Knowledge to include Cobol


Key Personal Criteria Required

Communicating and Influencing – You will need first class communication skills to work with your business customers and colleagues in ISAM, ISBS and GTD. When problems are identified and dealt with in production it is often useful to feed back information to development areas.
