Standard Life Investments is a premier asset manager with an expanding global reach. Our wide range of investment solutions is backed by our distinctive investment philosophy, disciplined risk management and shared commitment to a culture of investment excellence.

As active managers, we place significant emphasis on rigorous research and a strong collaborative ethos. We constantly think ahead and strive to anticipate change before it happens, ensuring that our clients can look to the future with confidence.

Standard Life Investments manages about £150 billion on behalf of clients worldwide. Our investment capabilities span equities, bonds, real estate, private equity, multi-asset solutions, fund-of-funds and absolute return strategies.

Headquartered in Edinburgh, Standard Life Investments employs more than 850 talented professionals. We maintain a presence in a number of locations around the world including Boston, Hong Kong, Paris, London, Beijing, Montreal, Sydney, Dublin and Seoul.

Our investors rank among some of the world's most sophisticated and high-profile institutions. They include corporate pension plans, banks, mutual funds, insurance companies, fund-of-fund managers, endowments, foundations, charities, official institutions, sovereign wealth funds and government authorities.

The Multi Asset Investing Team (MAIT) is responsible for many of the larger, more complex funds managed by SLI, including the GARS absolute return funds, the Standard Life plc Group funds and over 100 balanced / segregated pension funds for external clients.

Within MAIT, the Strategy team is responsible for forming the House View to guide the decision making process of other fund managers within SLI, the senior decision makers at Standard Life Plc as well as SLI's external clients, both wholesale and institutional. The team consists of a number of economists, market strategists and research analysts, who work closely with other experts in MAIT eg on Risk as well as the various fund management teams, eg property research or fixed income, credit or equity analysis.

The economist positions will report to the Head of Global Strategy, who in turn reports to the Head of MAIT and Fixed Income. Both are members of the Global Investment Group (GIG) which forms the top most House View at SLI. One senior international economist who focuses on North America is currently based in the Montreal office.

Role Purpose
The team of economists are responsible for:

a) analysing the key economies with a specific focus on the USA, the Eurozone, China, Japan, the UK, and other major emerging economies;
b) making macro-economic forecasts of the key economic indicators over different time frames;
c) contributing research reports on economic issues to the GIG, to SL Group and to the fund managers;
d) writing articles for the Global publications series and external trade press in order to raise the profile of SLI;
e) making presentations to current and prospective clients on the House View and broader economic matters;
F) contributing research ideas to the Global Tactical Asset Allocation team and to the GARS fund team within MAIT.

The aim is to have two or more economists, one to focus on OECD economies, especially the UK and Europe, and one to focus on emerging markets, especially China and Asia. These would coordinate international economics coverage with the North Amercian economist based in Montreal. As a result, a considerable degree of travel is probable for one or both positions.

Key Outcomes
• Contribute accurate economic forecasts and productive scenario analysis
• Ensure a sufficient understanding of the House View amongst internal contacts eg the MAIT, SLI fund managers or SL Group
